Your donation will help lives in 2022! Upside is currently at capacity and is getting requests daily for mentors.
The good news is, we have plenty of mentors who are keen to get out there, in fact, we have had more mentors apply in the last 12 months than ever before! Now we just need your help to get them out there.
We work with young people aged 9-13 years old in the Auckland, Rodney and Tauranga regions.
They have been referred to us from principals, counsellors, psychologists and social workers who believe a positive role model is what this young person needs to help navigate their current challenges.
Every mentor commits to spending time with their young person once a week for a year.
From picnics on the beach and kicking around a ball, to just being a person to talk to and a constant in their lives - our mentors provide a range of support to our young people.
And it works! - 100% of young people told us that they felt their mentor genuinely cares for them.
Having a positive role model in their life makes a noticeable difference!
100% of parents/caregiver’s noticed positive changes in their child after 12 months of mentoring.
These changes included: an increase in confidence, enhanced communication skills and an improvement in behaviors both at school and at home.
It doesn't stop there!
94% told us their child had developed a new skill from their mentor. These new skills range from learning magic tricks, skateboarding, fishing, getting better at maths and reading, learning to play the piano (and loads more).
